Review : horrorstör by Grady Hendrix

“Something strange is happening at the Orsk furniture superstore in Cleveland, Ohio. Every morning, employees arrive to find broken Kjerring bookshelves, shattered Glans water goblets, and smashed Liripip wardrobes. Sales are down, security cameras reveal nothing, and store managers are panicking.
To unravel the mystery, three employees volunteer to work a nine-hour dusk-till-dawn shift. In the dead of the night, they’ll patrol the empty showroom floor, investigate strange sights and sounds, and encounter horrors that defy the imagination.” (Goodreads)

First, i have to mention how amazing the production on the book is! Look at it! The cover is brillant, eye-catching and funny. Love it when people in the bus thinks i’m reading a weird ikea catalogue. Good job on the layout!
So, the concept of this book was fun and original. I loved the mix of dark humor and the horror. The first part is funny, almost a parody of this kind of job. The second part forgets about the humor and turns into one hell of a creepy nighmare. It was also pretty graphic at some point. I enjoyed it very much
But, it had some flaws. I found that the storyline had some cliché parts (took from other ghost stories). The writing was okay. The characters were boring and even annoying. I really disliked the main character Amy, i wanted to punch her in the face. Oups. I didn’t felt a conection with her or with any of the sides characters.
But even with the flaws, the ending made me want more.

Review : The Name of Star by Maureen Johnson

“Jack the Ripper is back, and he’s coming for Rory next….
Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London to start a new life at boarding school just as a series of brutal murders mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper killing spree of more than a century ago has broken out across the city. The police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man believed to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him – the only one who can see him. And now Rory has become his next target…unless she can tap her previously unknown abilities to turn the tables.” (Goodreads)

Oh, that was such a fun book. It has everything i enjoy :
– interesting story. Boarding school, ghost, jack the ripper? C’mon! What more can we ask for! Umm, maybe if it was set in London, oh wait! It is! Perfect.
-great characters. Our main character Rory is amazing. She’s fun and smart. I love her voice, it was refreshing. Her sense of humor is brillant. The side characters were also very fascinating. They add so much fun to a dark story. Rory relationship with all of them is a+.
– good writing. I always enjoy Maureen Johnson’s writing. Her way of picturing London is perfect, made me feel like i was there. She made me travel with her words and i loved the trip.
I will be reading the next book in the series!

Review : The Silence of Six by E.C. Myers

“What is the silence of six, and what are you going to do about it?”
These are the last words uttered by 17-year-old Max Stein’s best friend, Evan: Just moments after hacking into the live-streaming Presidential debate at their high school, he kills himself.
Haunted by the image of Evan’s death, Max’s entire world turns upside down as he suddenly finds himself the target of a corporate-government witch-hunt. Fearing for his life and fighting to prove his own innocence, Max goes on the run with no one to trust and too many unanswered questions. Max must dust off his own hacking skills and maneuver the dangerous labyrinth of underground hacktivist networks, ever-shifting alliances, and virtual identities — all while hoping to find the truth behind the “Silence of Six” before it’s too late.” (Goodreads)

This book comes out on November 5th 2014

I really loved this book. It was one very nice surprise! The silence of six is an exciting page-turner. My head was completly into this story from page one. It’s action pack and emotional (that ending!!!!). Max was such a great character, he’s well-developed and interesting. I had a very stronge connection with him, i cared so much. He is in pain, but he is trying his best to keep his head focus on what he has to do. The story is about hackers and sometimes i did get lost in all the geek terms used, but overall it was pretty fascinating. I don’t know much about hacking, but it felt real to me. The plot was unpredictable and exciting. I also really liked Myers writing and i can’t wait to see what she will create next.

Fall time cozy time, book tag!

i saw this tag around booktube and i really wanted to do it…but i don’t do videos, so, i just decided to do it here.

– Crunching leaves : the world is full of color, choose a book that had reds/oranges/yellows on the cover.

Do i even have to explain? It has all the falls color on it, haha.

-Cozy sweater : it’s finally cold enough to don warm cozy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

The end of this book makes my heart smile. It’s perfect!

-fall storm : The wind is howling and the rain is pounding, choose your favorite book or genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

YA Sci-fi books are perfect for rainy days.

-cool crips air : what’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

Um. That’s a hard question ’cause i’m pretty sure i would die really fast if i ever change place with one of my favorite characters, haha. but i think Karou form the Daughter of smoke and bone is one of the coolest character ever. She’s the best!

– hot appel Cider : What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

The Proxy series because it’s the best freaking thing in the world and EVERYBODY needs to read it!

-coat, scarves and mittens : the weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up, what’s the most embarrasing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

Books cover with the face of a girl on it are not my favorite, and this one is pretty bad to be honest…

-pumpkin spice : what’s your favorite fall time comforts food/foods?
Coffee and chocolate. Always. Every day, all year.

Hope you enjoy, you are welcome to do it if you want. I tag you.

Review : Girl of Nightmares (Anna #2) by Kendare Blake

“It’s been months since the ghost of Anna Korlov opened a door to Hell in her basement and disappeared into it, but ghost-hunter Cas Lowood can’t move on.
His friends remind him that Anna sacrificed herself so that Cas could live—not walk around half dead. He knows they’re right, but in Cas’s eyes, no living girl he meets can compare to the dead girl he fell in love with.
Now he’s seeing Anna everywhere: sometimes when he’s asleep and sometimes in waking nightmares. But something is very wrong…these aren’t just daydreams. Anna seems tortured, torn apart in new and ever more gruesome ways every time she appears.
Cas doesn’t know what happened to Anna when she disappeared into Hell, but he knows she doesn’t deserve whatever is happening to her now. Anna saved Cas more than once, and it’s time for him to return the favor.” (Goodreads)

I don’t even know if i like this one more than the first one. They are both SO GOOD. This book is just the right mix of humor and horror. It’s really addictive. I feel like everything i said about Anna dressed in blood can be say for this one too. The story, the characters and the writing makes this series so unique and fun. Thomas is the best. He’s an awesome witch with loyalty and geeky ways. Gosh, this book was amazing.
So, can we have more please? I feel like the possibilities are endless. I would love to see more of Cas and his friends!
Oh, and the covers of both books are GORGEOUS.

Review : Anna dressed in blood by Kendare Blake

“Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead. So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father’s mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay. Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he’s never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

Yet she spares Cas’s life.” (Goodreads)

Perfect halloween story? I think so. It was creepy and gory, but very fun at the same time. It mix action, love and death perfectly. I really like Blake’s writing. Cas is a great character and i really enjoyed reading from his perspective. He’s awesome. Anna is fascinating. Love her so much. Her character goes through a lot a changes. Her relationship with Cas is cute. The romance is a bit slow, but still enjoyable and it fits perfectly in the story. The side characters are amazing. I think my favorite is Thomas and i love his friendship with Cas.
Anna dressed in blood is fresh and doesn’t feel like something i have read before.
