Review : The Forever Song (Blood of Eden #3) by Julie Kagawa

Vengeance will be hers.

Allison Sekemoto once struggled with the question: human or monster? With the death of her love, Zeke, she has her answer.

Allie will embrace her cold vampire side to hunt down and end Sarren, the psychopathic vampire who murdered Zeke. But the trail is bloody and long, and Sarren has left many surprises for Allie and her companions – her creator Kanin, and her blood brother, Jackal. The trail is leading straight to the one place they must protect at any cost – the last vampire-free zone on Earth, Eden. And Sarren has one final, brutal shock in store for Allie.

In a ruined world where no life is sacred and former allies can turn on you in one heartbeat, Allie will face her darkest days. And if she succeeds, her triumph will be short-lived in the face of surviving forever alone.”

This was the last book in The Blood of Eden series and i think it was great! This series is one of the darkest, most chilling vampire story in YA that i have read. It’s macabre and bloody and oh so good.

Julie Kagawa is such an incredible writer. The ambiance in this book is phenomenal. you can feel the whole darkness of the word in the descriptions. Dead people hanging from dead trees, blood everywhere and creepy settings, the writing really captures the hopelessness of the current situation. Kagawa is a wonderful world builder, i’m very curious to see what she did in her other books!

I had a little problem with Allison and Zeke in this one. To be honest, they annoyed the crap out of me! Allison is great character, she smart, strong and not one dimensional, but gosh, she acts like a kid. She likes to feel bad about herself and she like to reminder herself ALL THE THINGS SHE DID WRONG. Sadly for us, we have to listen to her remembering all that… I really didn’t like that side of her. Zeke is not better, i would even say that he is worst because he felt very empty to me. Allison is interesting in many ways, but not him. i can’t understand that he doesn’t want to be what he is, but damn boy, stop changing your mind! One second he’s all “omg, i can’t live like this, kill me Allie!” and the next he’s like “Thanks Allie for not giving up on me, love you!” and than on the next page he’s back at wanting to die. i dislike him a lot. The side characters were way more fun. Jackal is my favorite character of this series and i’m going to miss him. He’s fantastic and he kept saying everything i was thinking about Allie and Zeke while reading. I absolutely love that he can be merciless and hilarious. I also really enjoyed his way of thinking, he’s smart and he’s also capable of seeing the big picture, which end up being very helpful since Allison is not capable of that. She’s more impulsive. Jackal had some of the best quotes and i love how sarcastic he was, wish he could have is own spin-off series, i would totally read that! And Kanin, oh my dear Kanin, what a brillant character, fascinating and strong.

i’m also not really a big fan of the ending. I don’t think it was a bad ending, i just feel like some things were a bit obvious. Some of the twists were just to convenient to me, they came easily and at the perfect moment.

Overall, i enjoyed this series alot, it was very dark and fun to read. i would recommend it to horror fan, but it had some flaws. The main characters were okay, but the side characters were fantastic. I think you should read it just for Jackal.

The Forever Song : 4/5
