Review : Since you’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson

“It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?

Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.
Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?
Kiss a stranger? Um…

Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane’s list. Who knows what she’ll find?
Go skinny-dipping? Wait…what?”
okay, if i had to pick my number one summer recommendation, that book would be Since you’ve been gone. I was not expecting much when I decided to read it because to be honest I didn’t see why people were going crazy about it, but now i know. First, i absolutely love our main character. She is lost and scared of going on without her best friend but she still is capable of taking risks by herself. I like that about her. She was fun to follow. Her character developement was well-done and realistic. Emily becomes someone new by the end of her story. She’s not Sloane’s shadow anymore, she’s capable of being herself completely. I also really like the other characters, all of they. I enjoyed those parts where we get to see into Sloane and Emily’s friendship, it help understanding how Emily was feeling. Sloane was an interesting character, i kinda wish we could’ve seen more of her. Frank, Collins and Dawn are great and the four of them made a fun little group. The storyline itself was so fun and intriguing. You really want to see how she’s going to do everything on the list. It was such a great story about friendship and doing things that you are afraid of doing. It really makes you want to go out there and go on adventures! Matson’s writing is fantastic, it captured my attention very fast and once it did, i just couldn’t put the book down. The ending was so perfect and cute. I love it! Since You’ve Been Gone was everything I was looking for : fun, interesting and the perfect summer read.

Since You’ve Been Gone : 4.5/5

  1. Pretty Doesome says:

I’ve been wanting to read this, but I am afraid it will be too YA in terms of language. Do you think it was? I like YA as a genre, but some authors I think mistake the genre for kid’s lit and write much more simplistic prose than they should. What would you say? (I so love this cover btw ❤ )
