“Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?”
I was not expecting to have so much fun reading this book. First, the main character is incredible. I love his voice so much. I like how funny he was even is the worst situation. He makes a mistake and he fixes it, he is smart and brave. Mark is one of the most entertaining narrator I have ever read. I would love to meet him in real life. The other characters were okay, but really Mark was the star of the story! The storyline is so great! It was original and fascinating. I really enjoyed watching, not only Mark’s situation, but also all the other POVs. I like seeing how everybody turned to help Mark. It was beautiful. Sometimes, the whole science aspect was a bit heavy. Mark descrbes everything he does to survive and well, i did found some psrts a bit too much.
i enjoyed Andy Weir’s writing and the way he used all those POVs. The book goes from a first person narrator to a third person. I really was not expecting that change but it gives us an interesting view of Mark’s situation.
This was a fantastic book and i’m soooooooo excited for the movie!
