October Madness : What to read on Halloween night

5. Asylum

“Once you get in, there’s no getting out.

For sixteen-year-old Dan Crawford, a summer program for gifted students is the chance of a lifetime. No one else at his high school gets his weird fascinations with history and science, but at the New Hampshire College Prep program, such quirks are all but required. Dan arrives to find that the usual summer housing has been closed, forcing students to stay in the crumbling Brookline dorm—formerly a psychiatric hospital. As Dan and his new friends Abby and Jordan start exploring Brookline’s twisty halls and hidden basement, they uncover disturbing secrets about what really went on here . . . secrets that link Dan and his friends to the asylum’s dark past. Because it turns out Brookline was no ordinary psych ward. And there are some secrets that refuse to stay buried.

Featuring haunting found photographs from real asylums, this mind-bending reading experience blurs the lines between past and present, friendship and obsession, genius and insanity.”

4. Through the Woods

“Journey through the woods in this sinister, compellingly spooky collection that features four brand-new stories and one phenomenally popular tale in print for the first time. These are fairy tales gone seriously wrong, where you can travel to “Our Neighbor’s House”—though coming back might be a problem. Or find yourself a young bride in a house that holds a terrible secret in “A Lady’s Hands Are Cold.” You might try to figure out what is haunting “My Friend Janna,” or discover that your brother’s fiancée may not be what she seems in “The Nesting Place.” And of course you must revisit the horror of “His Face All Red,” the breakout webcomic hit that has been gorgeously translated to the printed page.”

3. Slasher Girls and Monster Boys :

“A host of the sharpest young adult authors come together in this collection of terrifying tales and psychological thrillers. Each author draws from a mix of literature, film, television, and music to create something new and fresh and unsettling. Clever readers will love teasing out the references and can satisfy their curiosity at the end of each tale, where the inspiration is revealed. There are no superficial scares here; these are stories that will make you think even as they keep you on the edge of your seat. From blood horror, to the supernatural, to unsettling, all-too-possible realism, this collection has something for anyone looking for an absolute thrill.”

2. Night Film :

“On a damp October night, beautiful young Ashley Cordova is found dead in an abandoned warehouse in lower Manhattan. Though her death is ruled a suicide, veteran investigative journalist Scott McGrath suspects otherwise. As he probes the strange circumstances surrounding Ashley’s life and death, McGrath comes face-to-face with the legacy of her father: the legendary, reclusive cult-horror-film director Stanislas Cordova—a man who hasn’t been seen in public for more than thirty years. For McGrath, another death connected to this seemingly cursed family dynasty seems more than just a coincidence. Though much has been written about Cordova’s dark and unsettling films, very little is known about the man himself. Driven by revenge, curiosity, and a need for the truth, McGrath, with the aid of two strangers, is drawn deeper and deeper into Cordova’s eerie, hypnotic world. The last time he got close to exposing the director, McGrath lost his marriage and his career. This time he might lose even more.”

1. Say Her Name :

“Roberta ‘Bobbie’ Rowe is not the kind of person who believes in ghosts. A Halloween dare at her ridiculously spooky boarding school is no big deal, especially when her best friend Naya and cute local boy Caine agree to join in too. They are ordered to summon the legendary ghost of ‘Bloody Mary’: say her name five times in front of a candlelit mirror, and she shall appear… But, surprise surprise, nothing happens. Or does it?

Next morning, Bobbie finds a message on her bathroom mirror… five days… but what does it mean? And who left it there? Things get increasingly weird and more terrifying for Bobbie and Naya, until it becomes all too clear that Bloody Mary was indeed called from the afterlife that night, and she is definitely not a friendly ghost. Bobbie, Naya and Caine are now in a race against time before their five days are up and Mary comes for them, as she has come for countless others before…”

Have fun exploring these spooky reads ! 👻🎃

1) what’s your favourite horror movie?
that’s is one of the hardest question ever. I love so many horror movies….but I think i’m going to go with Friday the 13th : part 2, but i have to mention American Mary, The strangers and Sinister.

2) if you were in a horror movie, how far do you think you would get? (Five minutes, halfway, all the way to the end credits…) :
I like to think that I would be able to survive for a while, but i also think that it would depend on what kind of horror movie i am in. I would probably freak out completely if I was stuck in a haunted house, but i would be smart and organize if I was attacked by a serial killer or running away from zombies.

3) Favorite scary video game?
Outlast is my all time favorite and the only horror game that made me scream. I loved the graphic and the storyline. Very entertaining game if you are into horror.

4) Favorite scary story?
Bloody Mary. I don’t know why, but this story scares the hell out of me. Also, my mind is so weird, like, everytime i walk in front of a miroir at night, i start thinking «Bloody Mary…Bloody Mary…» and i walk away before i can say the third one. I’m so weird.

5) What’s one unusual thing that you are afraid of?

I don’t know if it’s unusual, but I’m always scared of being home alone at night. When my roommate is out, i get very worried that a serial killer is going to come in the house and just kill me. So I lock all the doors, even the one of my bathroom when i’m getting in the shower, it’s stupid.

6) What’s your first halloween memory?
i’m not sure, but i have this memory of me being dress up as a pumkin. I have no idea how old I was, or what happened that night, I just remember alot of orange makeup.

7) what’s your favorite halloween memory?
Once upon a time, me and my friend went out to trick or treat, we were kind of old, 15years old I think, but we wanted to have some fun. Anyway, we went out, me, 3 friends and my mom. We had just finished the street and decided to jump in the car and try somewhere else. We all get in the car and realize that one of our friends is missing. We looked back and see her running our way. She couldn’t talk or scream or asked us to wait because she had tape on her mouth. She was dressed up as a mime.  I can still perfectly picture the moment I saw her, a scared mime running down the street making signs with her hands to be sure we see her. We couldn’t stop laughing.

8) Best halloween costume you’ve had?

this one is pretty epic :

9) Worst halloween costume you`ve had?
I was dressed up as dog one year. It was ridiculous. I kind of wish I had a picture.

10. Werewolves or vampires? Vampires.

11. Ghosts or zombies? Ghosts are terrifying. I would freak out.

12. Creepy dolls or creepy clowns? Ummmmmm. Both? I guess the worst would be a creepy clown doll, that would be awful.

13.Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers or Leatherface? Even if LOVE Jason, i think Freddy is much scarier because he can kill you in your dreams and you kind of have to sleep once in a while….

She’s drugged, tortured, and images are torn from her memory by Public One. Until the morning everything changes. The vision is different. The future’s never been about her, and now she knows they’re coming for her: Nomads. How will she convince them to keep her alive when Nate, their leader, doesn’t like or even trust her? October Madness : «What’s your favorite horror movie?»

Oh, i have been asked this question SO MANY TIMES. I have so many favorite horror movies, it’s pretty much impossible to just pick one. The first movie that comes to mind would be Friday the 13th : part 2. Jason is my favorite killer. I don’t really know why, but I just LOVE him. An other of my favorite would be American Mary. I have seen this movie so many times but i never get bored. Not only is it very original, it also features my favorite : Katharine Isabelle.

Talking about my favorite scream queen, I have to mention Ginger Snaps, because this is THE BEST werewolf movie. One of the creepiest movies I have watch is Sinister. Everything about this film is incredible. I love the story, the acting, the horror aspect and the music. The music in this film is so freaking good. I have a thing for aliens too, so this is why I’m always excited about new horror movies with aliens in it. My favorites are Signs, Dark Skies and Extraterrestrial. These three movies are all fantastique. I still can’t watch Signs without feeling a bit weird. I think it’s because the invasion is quiet. There is not big explosion and guns, it’s quiet and terrifying.  The last movie i am going to talk about is the Scream series. I LOVE THIS SERIES. All of them (not the tv show, nop. NOP.). These movies are entertaining and fun, and full of horror references. Wes Craven was a genius.

So, this is it. These are some of my favorite horror movies. Of course, I could have named many more.
