Review : Alice by Christina Henry

“In a warren of crumbling buildings and desperate people called the Old City, there stands a hospital with cinderblock walls which echo the screams of the poor souls inside.

In the hospital, there is a woman. Her hair, once blond, hangs in tangles down her back. She doesn’t remember why she’s in such a terrible place. Just a tea party long ago, and long ears, and blood…
Then, one night, a fire at the hospital gives the woman a chance to escape, tumbling out of the hole that imprisoned her, leaving her free to uncover the truth about what happened to her all those years ago.
Only something else has escaped with her. Something dark. Something powerful.
And to find the truth, she will have to track this beast to the very heart of the Old City, where the rabbit waits for his Alice.”

I love it.

This was such a good retelling, dark, gore and disturbing. I always enjoy a good horror story, even more when it’s related to Alice in Wonderland. This book has everything i enjoy. Twisted and imaginative, the storyline was extremely intense. it’s also very dark, the themes are disturbing. Rape, murder and horror, i don’t think this book is for everyone. The ending was great, but i think the whole Alice vs. the Jabberwocky was a bit easy, but it was also kind of beautiful. I don’t want to say more, but i really like how it all end up. The only thing i didn’t really like was the main character. I didn’t hate her, i just got bored with her. but i love Hatcher and all the other side characters. It was so interesting to see them connect with the original ones.

Overall, this was a great read. Creepy, bloody, making this book a perfect read for October.

Alice : 4/5
