Review : Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

“This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.
This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.
Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.”

This book, wow. Wowwww.

First, i have to talk about the epic production on this books. It is such a fantastic format! The cover is A+, but what you find inside is just even better! Things like that :

And that’s only a couple of exemples!!!

Okay, now that i have talked about the beauty of this book, lets talk about the story.

I had a bit of a hard time really getting into it, but i didn’t want to put it down because of all the amazing reviews I saw and i’m so glad i didn’t stop reading! When i got around page 150, things got freaking intense! It was such a fun ride! And i was not really expecting such a dark read, but it kept getting darker and darker. It was gore at some part and i was sinply not expecting this aspect. But i’m all for it. It was great! I was also not expecting such a cute romance! But i absolutely love Kady and Ezra. I wanted them to be together and save and happy! They are both such strong characters and they both had their very own voice. I’m glad i enter this book not knowing much because it is full of surprises and twists. I really couldn’t put it down! The ending was great too, i’m so ready for the next book. SO READY. give it to me please!

So, Illuminae is a book i can highly recommend. Dark, original, creepy, i love it!

Illuminae: 4.5/5

Psssst, here’s the cover of the second book, look how pretty!!!

  1. I’m glad you enjoyed this book! I think I rated it the same. I loved the formatting – I’ve only ever read one other book that’s formatted similarly and I adored that too! There’s something just really interesting about it, it adds a little more to the experience I guess 🙂
