“Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books.
Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.
Da first brought Mackenzie Bishop here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now Da is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was: a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive.
Being a Keeper isn’t just dangerous—it’s a constant reminder of those Mac has lost, Da’s death was hard enough, but now that her little brother is gone too, Mac starts to wonder about the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking. In the Archive, the dead must never be disturbed. And yet, someone is deliberately altering Histories, erasing essential chapters. Unless Mac can piece together what remains, the Archive itself may crumble and fall.”
This book was so much fun. I love Victoria Schwab. Her stories are always so original and well-done. The Archived was so interesting. Dead resting on shelves like books?? YES PLEASE. I absolutely adored the whole world she has created around this idea. but i have to say that It took me maybe half the book to really get into a ” omg so good can’t put down”mode. I found the begining a bit slow, there’s a lot of info to take in, but i didn’t hate it. The characters were great. I really like Mackenzie, she was interesting. Smart and vulnerable, but also really strong. All the feelings she keeps inside, i wonder how she can even deal with everything in her life without going insane. Wesley was my absolute favorite! Such a fantastic character, can’t wait to see more of him. The only thing i didn’t like was the kind of romance with Owen, but i don´t want to say too much about it. i’m team Guyliner all the way, even if i have a feeling we’ll be seeing more of Owen in the next book…maybe?
And an other fantastic book by Miss Schwab, i’ll forever recommend all of her books and now i can add The Archived to the list.
The Archived : 4.5/5
