Review : Simon VS The Homo Sapiens agenda by Becky Albertalli

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.
With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

I know there’s already a review of this book on the blog…and i don’t usually talk about my rereads, but i just had to say this again : I LOVE THIS BOOK. Everything about it. The storyline is cute and fun. It was actually really great to reread the story knowing who Blue was. Some scenes just sounded more interesting now that i knew who he was.  The characters also really make this book special. They are geeky and easy to relate too. I just don’t even know what else to say, i love this book with everything i have. It really helped me with that stupid readinh slump.

Will you judge me if i start a third reread already?

Simon VS the Homo Sapiens Agenda : 5/5 (Reread)

Anime : Death Parade (2015)

Whether it’s bowling, darts, air hockey, or anything in between, each person’s true nature will be revealed in a ghastly parade of death and memories, dancing to the whims of the bar’s master. Review : Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake

“Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions. But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown. If only it was that simple. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison, and Arsinoe, no matter how hard she tries, can’t make even a weed grow. The two queens have been shamefully faking their powers, taking care to keep each other, the island, and their powerful sister Mirabella none the wiser. But with alliances being formed, betrayals taking shape, and ruthless revenge haunting the queens’ every move, one thing is certain: the last queen standing might not be the strongest…but she may be the darkest. ”

ahhh…writing this review is so hard. It’s hard because I don’t think i liked it…and i’m not sure if it’s because of the book or my reading slump. *cries*

Anyways, lets talk abit about the book. The book sounded SO EPIC. Queens, power, politics, intrigue …but it all felt super dull to me. The first 3/4 were slow and even boring. Which makes it really hard to keep on reading, especially with that stupid reading slump. What I got was romance, not even good one in my opinion 😦 I was not invested at all in the couples. The characters were also boring. I feel like the narration didn’t help either. It’s a third-person narrative and it was emotionless. Completely flat…which breaks my heart because i love Blake’s writing style…usually. And there’s alot of POVs and alot of characters,  that made it hard for any of them to have their very own voice.

The last part got interesting, but it just wasn’t enough for me… but again, i don’t know if it’s me or the book…..stupid, annoying reading slump T.T

Three Dark Crowns : 2.5/5
