Review : A Conjuring of Light (A Darker Shade of Magic # 3) by Victoria Schwab

Witness the fate of beloved heroes – and enemies.
THE BALANCE OF POWER HAS FINALLY TIPPED…

The precarious equilibrium among four Londons has reached its breaking point. Once brimming with the red vivacity of magic, darkness casts a shadow over the Maresh Empire, leaving a space for another London to rise.

WHO WILL CRUMBLE?
Kell – once assumed to be the last surviving Antari – begins to waver under the pressure of competing loyalties. And in the wake of tragedy, can Arnes survive?

WHO WILL RISE?
Lila Bard, once a commonplace – but never common – thief, has survived and flourished through a series of magical trials. But now she must learn to control the magic, before it bleeds her dry. Meanwhile, the disgraced Captain Alucard Emery of the Night Spire collects his crew, attempting a race against time to acquire the impossible.

WHO WILL TAKE CONTROL?
And an ancient enemy returns to claim a crown while a fallen hero tries to save a world in decay.

ahhh, Miss Schwab. I love you. I love your work and your characters. I know this is suppose to be a review for the last book, but it’s really more a love letter to the whole series. It’s one of my favorite and i just can’t believe it’s over. The story was so amazing. With actions and romance (but nothing cheesy and boring), beautiful descriptions and characters, my god, characters who will stay with me for such a long time. Original and interesting. I loved them all so freaking much. I don’t want to say goodbye. *cries* The conclusion was incredible and so perfect. I couldn’t ask for anything more. I’m very happy with how it ended. I’m not saying more, you will have to read it to see. But it was amazing. My favorite thing from this whole series is the writing. Victoria’s style is everything i look for in a book. It’s beautiful and magical and poetic without being too much. She has a way with words that makes my reader’s heart so happy.

Thank you for this INCREDIBLE series. it will take me a little while to get over this beauty.

A Conjuring of Light : 5/5

The One with the lucky concert.

Dear Monday,

Today, i want to talk about music, but mostly i want to tell you about the Maroon 5 concert i went to this weekend. Concerts may be my favorite places to be. It makes me feel alive and free. You can sing, jump, dance, scream and no one will care. You just let go of everything and let the music win. It feels good.

I saw Maroon 5 Saturday night. it’s my second time seeing them and my god, it was incredible. But the most amazing thing, Monday, was that we were lucky enough to get an upgrade on our tickets. We went from the highest and cheapest tickets to two amazing sits right in front of the stage. It was absolutely insane. all this because we were nice to the lady who worked there. Being kind is always the answer, Monday. That proves it.

My weekend was kind of awesome. Hope yours was great too.

Yours Trurly,

Sarah.

Review : Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver

For popular high school senior Samantha Kingston, February 12—”Cupid Day”—should be one big party, a day of valentines and roses and the privileges that come with being at the top of the social pyramid. And it is…until she dies in a terrible accident that night. However, she still wakes up the next morning. In fact, Sam lives the last day of her life seven times, until she realizes that by making even the slightest changes, she may hold more power than she ever imagined.

i liked this book, i just didn’t find it mind blowing. This seems to happened with every book by Lauren Oliver i read, it always okay. I love the premise of this one, don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the storyline and the concept, i do think it could have been shorter a little. I found myself being bored during some parts. Especially at first, the begining was really slow and it takes a little while for the story to really pick up. The ending was sad and good. I did wish we got some kind of explanation about why this was happening, but the story had a great conclusion. As for the characters, well, meh. Sam and her friends are your typical mean, annoying, popular girls. Which i always hate. Everytime they talked or acted, i wanted to punch them. I didn’t care much them, but i like their friendship (most if the them, i sometime asked myself why Sam was friend with some of them) I did love Lauren Oliver’s writing style, i just think some parts could have been shorter.

I do think it will make a great movie, i’m excited to see it.

Before I Fall: 3.5/5

Review : Slade House by David Mitchell

Keep your eyes peeled for a small black iron door.
Down the road from a working-class British pub, along the brick wall of a narrow alley, if the conditions are exactly right, you’ll find the entrance to Slade House. A stranger will greet you by name and invite you inside. At first, you won’t want to leave. Later, you’ll find that you can’t. Every nine years, the house’s residents—an odd brother and sister—extend a unique invitation to someone who’s different or lonely: a precocious teenager, a recently divorced policeman, a shy college student. But what really goes on inside Slade House? For those who find out, it’s already too late. . . .
Spanning five decades, from the last days of the 1970s to the present, leaping genres, and barreling toward an astonishing conclusion, this intricately woven novel will pull you into a reality-warping new vision of the haunted house story—as only David Mitchell could imagine it.

i feel like it’s hard for me to review this book because to be honest, it didn’t really stick with me. Everytime i closed the book, it was like i just forgot whatever i read. So, it’s clear to say this will never be my favorite book. Did i hate it? No, not really, I guess it just didn’t really work for me. For what i saw, there’s alot of mixed reviews about this one. For me, there’s a couple of things that stopped me from fully enjoying. The format bugged me a little. I had a hard time connecting with the characters since we only got them for a short time. I didn’t care for any of them. The storyline was interesting enough to keep me going, but not that fantastic in my opinion. Predictable during some parts too. It wasn’t really creepy, but it had an interesting, dark vibe that i enjoyed. As for the writing style, i really like it. I’d be interested to read more from David Mitchell and hopefully i’d be  more into his other storylines.

This book didn’t really work for me, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work for you guys. There’s alot of good reviews on Goodreads.

The One when it’s almost Valentine’s day

Dear Monday.

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and even if i’m single, i have to say, i always liked it. I think there’s something special about a day dedicated to Love. i know some people will answer me by saying something like “ugh, but it’s soooo commercial now” Well, i’m sorry, it’s only that way because you let yourself turn it into something focus more on the gifts side.

I love the pinks and the reds decorating the stores. I love seeing boys in the bus with flowers in their hands and girls smiling. I like the chocolate and how they go on sale the next day. I like how in this scary, busy world there’s still a day  only for love.

But that’s just me i guess, i can see why people would hate it too.

Happy Valentine’s day, Monday.

Yours Truly,

Sarah. ❤
