Review : The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich

There is a secret organization that cultivates teenage spies. The agents are called Love Interests because getting close to people destined for great power means getting valuable secrets.Caden is a Nice: the boy next door, sculpted to physical perfection. Dylan is a Bad: the brooding, dark-souled guy who is dangerously handsome. The girl they are competing for is important to the organization, and each boy will pursue her. Will she choose the Nice or the Bad? Both Caden and Dylan are living in the outside world for the first time. They are well-trained and at the top of their games. They have to be—whoever the girl doesn’t choose will die.
What the boys don’t expect are feelings that are outside of their training. Feelings that could kill them both.

First, i have to say that i have read some reviews on Goodreads and i know this book wasn’t for everyone. There’s alot of mixed opinion with this one, but it worked very well for me. i had an amazing time reading this story. The concept was fun, entertaining and original. I finished it in one sitting and i enjoyed it alot. I do wish our characters were a bit more developed, i think that’s one of the things i was really missing. I wanted more from them. Especially Natalie. Her character could have been freaking epic, but meh. Also, the whole “cheating” part really pissed me off, i don’t want to say any spoilers, but gosh, DO NOT ACTED LIKE CHEATING IS OKAY. Caden and Dylan were both okay, i liked how it played with YA clichés and obviously i enjoyed how the author took the love triangle and push it in a very interesting direction. There’s  alot of hot shirtless dudes and lets be honest, i was fine with that. The writing style itself was okay, it did need a bit more of world building in my opinion. I also would have like some chapters from Dylan POV, i wanted to see him play the game and get into his head a little. We barely got to know him.

Overall, i enjoyed that book, but it’s far from perfect. There’s a couple of plot holes and it lacks of world building. I’m pretty sure not everybody will enjoy it, but i really did.

The Love Interest: 3.5/5
