Review : Blood Knot by Erin Walmsley

Another solstice, another twist in the blood knot. But one way or another, it all ends here. Tonight.

It began when Midnight Madigan turned sixteen. Fragmented memories, reaching for her like dead fingers through earth. A chill, right down in her marrow. And the awareness of something in the shadows. Something familiar. All she wants is the truth about how her parents died. If she doesn’t get some answers she’s going to lose her mind. Maybe she should heed the warning in the tarot cards, listen to the pleas from Celestine to leave it all alone. Or maybe she doesn’t have a choice.

I was really excited to get into this one because i absolutely adore Night Terrors by the same author. This one was an other good read. Really quick and easy to get into. I think the overarching mystery was interesting. We are following Midnight has she is trying to piece together the truth about her parents murder. It had me hooked pretty early on and i was curious to see how it would end. The twists and reveal were well done, maybe a little bit obvious for some of them, but nothing to really stop my enjoyment. The writing style was great, i’m excited to read more by Erin Walmsley, she does horror well. I like the representation of wiccans in here, it was clear that the writer was familiar with the topic.

My main trouble with this book was Midnight herself. She walks the fine line between being fierce, knowing what she wants type of girl and just being mean… and more often then not she crossed it. The way she reacted to some things was frustrating and she reads so young. I understand that she is a 16 year old, but i rolled my eyes so many times. She acts as if the world is against her when she has a fantastic BFF and a very loving aunt. Both of which she treats very poorly. but, i have hope for her, by the end i think she understood that her ways might have been the wrong way to go and i see alot of space for growth. I’d be very curious to see how she evolves if this becomes a series.

The villain in this one was fantastic. Absolute pure evil and i was here for it : “He alone knew the secrets of the universe. The hidden truths that would enable him to accomplish the unthinkable. The incomprehensible . He would become more powerful than any man who had ever lived, standing shoulder to shoulder with Satan and the brightest of his angels”. give me more. I truly wish we had more of chapters from his POV.

Overall, I think that was solid novel. It was a really fun read.

blood knot : 3.5/5
